Causes and Solutions for Carpenter Ant Infestations
Carpenter ants do not eat wood unlike another familiar pest found in middle Tennessee – the termite. However, carpenter ants can enter your home through door frames, window frames, and eaves looking for food. Carpenter ants mainly live outdoors in dead wood and can establish multiple colonies with one serving as the parent colony. They prefer wood damaged by moisture such as those in crawl spaces that have not had a moisture barrier installed. To thoroughly get rid of carpenter ants you must find and destroy the colony or colonies. Business or home owners usually have little success in doing so. Some treatments can treat the foraging carpenter ants but they do not attack the colony. You should contact Ameri Care Services at the first sign of a carpenter ant problem. There are a few steps you can take to prevent carpenter ants in the future including removing rotten wood from your property. You can also ask your Ameri Care Services pest control specialist about our crawl space waterproofing to control any moisture issues you may have that would allow a favorable nesting environment for the carpenter ants.
